2015: I’ll Support A Candidate Based On Performance, Not Party Loyalty – Obasanjo • Declares Support For Amosun

OBJFormer President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday again hinted where his vote will go in the February general elections, saying it is “performance” and not “party loyalty” that will inform his choice of who to support.

Obasanjo, who has not hidden his soft spot for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun state and incumbent, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, in the February 28 governorship election in the state, made his position known when Igbo leaders from Lagos and Ogun States visited him at his Presidential Hilltop Estate, Abeokuta, the state capital.

The Igbo delegation led by Chief Austine Nkeze, was in the former president’s residence to identify with him and seek his direction regarding the forthcoming elections.

In his address to the delegation, Obasanjo appealed to non–indigenes in Ogun State to re-elect Amosun so that the infrastructural, urban renewal projects being executed by the governor could be sustained.

Obasanjo said: “In 2011, we were not together, though we were together before and I did campaign against him. But, see what he has been able to do in the last three and half years in the state, I cannot sacrifice performance for party.

“I never dream of having a bridge on dry land in Ogun state in my life time. Yes, we have Ogun River, where there is a bridge, but on a dry land, go to Ijebu, Sagamu, Ota, what am I seeing, bridges, not even one, two, three.

“So, my people, I am not talking about other elections. I have come to tell you that in order to appreciate what this personality has been able to do in the last three and half years, let us give him our votes.

“If you do me this honour and things change, come and meet me and I will be responsible. But, because I know his personality, he will not. What happened in 2011 is politics, and we can all see the difference between politics and personality”.

  1. It’s all deceits. It’s bc Chief Obasanjo was given d leading role @ behind d scene in PDP & in Nigeria poltics at large. My fear is dat we easily fall for their lies. Do I say he is losing his in Nigeria politics gradually. Even the sets of politicians he said he is following are not really people he wishes to to follow. I feel he can’t be proclaing these people and yet he is not membber of their party. Soon, a big and long tailer will pass in-between them. Politicians are liars. And bbaba as an old man, who by his words reference should be made. But bc he is also a producer of lies, he entangles & joining issues with some other young & old Nigerians who shows dat they too understand the terrain history of military & political occurences. So this time what does he has to tell us to vote for the candidate he is supporting?
