Police Nab Six Armed Robbers In FCT

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have arrested six suspected armed robbers in Utako Village in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to a Friday statement, the e suspects were apprehended on Wednesday in an uncompleted hospital building which is a marked black spot during a coordinated raid operation.

Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, who disclosed this, said a locally made pistol, two live cartridges, and wraps of substances suspected to be marijuana were recovered from the suspects.

She identified the suspects as Basara Hassan, Daniel Charles, Adamu M Oshiaka, Chancy Asidi, and Saliu Al Hassan, all from neighbouring states bordering the nation’s capital.

“Further investigation about the recovered ammunition, led to the arrest of one Yusuf Iliyasu a.k.a Tablet, who is an ex-convict and the syndicate leader.

“While an investigation is ongoing, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh psc, mni, wishes to assure residents of his unwavering commitment to make Abuja a hell for criminals and to ensure the safety of all,” the statement read.

Meanwhile in Taraba State, the Nigerian Army confirmed the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, Janet Igohia, while trying to pick up a N1.5 million ransom for an abducted victim.

The arrest of the female kidnapper was made by the troops of the 93 Battalion under 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson for the brigade, Lieutenant Oni Olubodunde, the troops also apprehended a notorious gunrunner dealing in arms and ammunition and supplying them to criminals within Taraba State and other parts of the country.

The suspect, it was learnt, was married to a notorious criminal who is a second-in-command to late Hana Terwase.

The army spokesperson said the suspect was arrested after being paid ransom for an abducted victim in the Chanchangi area in Takum Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.

“She is currently married to the leader of a violent extremist group in southern Taraba.

“According to her, she had previously been married to high-profile criminals such as late Terkibi Gemaga, aka Mopol, a notorious kidnapper who was killed by troops five years ago.

“She revealed that she also got married to late Gana Terwase, another notorious criminal who was killed during a joint special force operation three years ago,” he said.

Olubodunde also revealed that the troops deployed in Mararaba Baissa community of Donga LGA apprehended two other suspected gun runners who were allegedly involved in extra judicial killings and cattle rustling with the sum of N600,000.

“The money recovered from the suspects was part of the proceeds from their illegal activities and 2 Techno mobile phones,” he added.

He gave the names of the suspects as Alhaji Adamu Damisa [40] and Usman Isah [44].
