Enugu Speaker’s mother kidnapped

THE aged mother of the Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Mr. Eugene Odoh, was abducted by a gang of kidnappers from their Ukehe home in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of the state, Wednesday night.

It was learnt that the kidnappers contacted the Speaker on phone yesterday, demanding a ransom of N500 million, which should be paid without delay.

Although details of the incident were scanty at press time, sources said the kidnappers stormed the Speaker’s home and took the woman away at gunpoint.

Odoh could not be reached yesterday, but one of his aides confirmed the incident, saying that the police had already swung into action to ensure that the woman was released.

“We are already on the matter and I can tell you that the kidnappers have contacted the Speaker today (yesterday).

They first called with a GSM number to demand for a N500 million ransom, but efforts to get them on that same number proved abortive as the number was switched of. They called again with another number to talk with the Speaker, sticking to their demand,” the Speaker’s aide told Vanguard.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, refused to pick his calls after several attempts by Vanguard to ascertain what the police command was doing to rescue the Speaker’s mother from the kidnappers, who have laid siege on the state in recent times.
