Four students of the University of Lagos were on Tuesday charged before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly gang raping a 17-year-old girl.
The accused – Jeremiah Bamigbayan, 18; Lanre Olayemi, 19; Abisoye Atoyegbe, 18; and Nelson Onyeoziri, 18 – are facing a three-count charge of rape, conspiracy and assault.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
But the prosecutor, ASP Innocent Effiong, said the accused, all of the Business Administration Department, allegedly committed the offence when they conspired and raped their victim on March 17.
He said the alleged victim, a student of History and Strategic Studies of the same university, was overpowered and raped at about 10.30 p.m. at Ozolua Boys Quarters on the campus.
Effiong said the offences contravened Section 258, 259 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State 2011.
Magistrate Adesola Ikpatt granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
She adjourned the case to April 30 for mention.

All of you should keep quiet please! there are two sides to every story. What if the girl is lying? cause apparently this girl in question is no virgin and sleeps around frequently. So before you curse or condemn anyone. be sure you know the WHOLE TRUTH!

Why don’t we all just know the truth before condemning anyone because this girl is not a Virgin and we all know her she sleeps around with boys she just want to ruin this boys career and what is she looking for around 10:30pm in the night in the boys room she caused it herself it is not that they picked her on the road side but she walked into the room herself. We should not just judge she could be lying
@ jassie i support you according to what i read if truly she was raped that night why did she not scream out because I also live in a boys quarters in school.it is not possible for her to raped and room mate should not know about it or neighbors around should not know. she reported the case after a week not the next day, Nigerians this girl must be lying if truely she was raped why did she not call on the police the next day. In united state of American anything a week reported about a rape case is not valid because how do we know if this girl is not lying it is not all case we just put to judgement we should know the truth and detective should go around and make sure this is the truth before making judgement.With my own support this boys should be set free the blame is to be put on the girl
that is what some guy are doin now,if they woo any girl and it happen that girl did not accept,they will plan to set her up even through her girl mate just to rape her.the same thing happen to one of my friend (girl).what i do is that she should nt curse him that sinner will nt go unpunish.they should gain what they did.

I believe that as a matter of fact,there is no smoke without fire.I wouldnt want to blame d lady and in as much as i wouldnt want 2 blame her there is a need 4 us 2 clearly identify wat a lady would go and look in a male hostel around 10:30.we cant ascertain wether she was rape or not and also wether it is a conspiracy against d boys or not.d reality is dat ladies and women generally can go to any length 4 wateva dey want.if eventualy she was rape then the bulk of the blame should go to the lady in question.hey hey am not being sentimental.
I appreciate d comments so far. I want us to acknoledge that this type of event is bound to happen whenever we go against d rules set by d authority (in dis case girls are avoid visiting boys hostel and vice vasal) and particularly those rules and advice enacted by our creator (THE ONE GOD) concerning modesty, fear of d day of judgement, modest dressing etc.
Let d parties involved (ie d acclaimed raped girl, d accussed boys, d prosecutor and d judge) know that GOD d knower of d hidden and open shall re-judge d case. Think b4 u act.
