Mubi Independence Day Massacre: Names Of Victims Revealed As Rector Writes Letter To Presidency

When unidentified gunmen stormed an off campus hostel site of the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Adamawa state, many pointed fingers in the direction of boko haram while another section claimed the killings was a fall out of the SUG elections. However, 5 days later, there’s not been a categorical statement on the cause of the unprovoked attack or who the perpetrators are.

In light of the foregoing, SaharaReporters has obtained the exclusive list of students murdered on that unfortunate day, Oct. 1st 2012 – a day set aside for celebration of Nigeria’s independence.

So far security agencies have refused to provide the real identities of the slain students but in obtaining the list, SR also discovered that certain names were generic in nature, for example the person named “Chimobi Ibo” is actually Mbaegbu Chimaobi Vanitius. The following are the names and the methods adopted by the gunmen to attack students after calling out their names.

If the names above are anything to go by, it is clear that the victims cut across religious and ethnic lines and it will be too early to conclude that the killing was targeted at a particular tribe or religion.

More shocking is the discovery that there has been no official response from the institution’s management on the matter as a cursory look at the school’s portal online indicates no such news.

In a related development, in the wake of the killings on Monday last week, the top management of the institution met and resolved to write a letter to the president which was routed through the office of the minister of education.

A copy of the letter according to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY,  findings reads in part: “The incident that occurred in Mubi is not hooliganism and it is not cultism, neither is it linked to the post Students Union Government (SUG) election violence.

“From the school’s findings, six students of the institution were killed and four were injured. More so, the incident occurred outside the school and those who committed the act are not students as widely reported in the media.”

The letter, which was signed by the rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Sadiq Girei, and dated October 4, 2012, LEADERSHIP SUNDAY learnt, also solicited the permission of the Ministry of Education “to make public the findings of the institution”.

The school authorities, according to the letter, are stating that the scene of the attack was at the ‘students’ village’, some 2 kilometres away from its campus, which also hosted students from other institutions.

They also informed the federal authorities that the gunmen used sophisticated weapons during the attack.

  1. SR, this may cut across tribes but sincerely speaking not religion. From the names, it is seriously one sided.
Let me ask u: why were they asking for names and other things that have religious inclinations to get their targets?
We must say it the way it is, may be we lie we will die, may be we say the truth we will die. We should have the audacity to say it the way it is otherwise we will be worse off than the perpetrators of this heinous crime that God will adequately punished.

  2. some people are just fond of inciting troubles but they never stand to face it. from the name above at least 13 muslims could be easily identified and u call it one sided? mind you it was not a face to face fight but ambush by a group. call it anything but far is it from religion.
