Nuptial Bliss Marred With Death of 20 Wedding Guests

Tragedy struck on Saturday morning at Ototo village, Abeokuta as 20 people going for a wedding ceremony died in an auto-crash.

According to reports, the accident was caused by a truck with registration number, Lagos, JJJ 498 XB, which veered off its lane and collided with a passenger-filled Hiace bus conveying the victims who were all members of the African Church, Solution Camp, Ewang Estate, Abeokuta. They were said to have left Abeokuta for Lagos to attend the wedding ceremony of one of their members.

Eye witnesses say many of the victims died on the spot, but got to the hospital before giving up the ghost. Two infants were said to have been involved in the accident, including a two-year old.

Confirming the accident, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sector commander, Abayomi Omiyale said the accident did happen, but only nine died. He also added that sympathizers took some corpses away before rescue team arrived at the scene.

Sola Bamidele, the coordinator of the Ogun State traffic management outfit, TRACE, said the passengers took off from Abeokuta less than 30 minutes before the accident happened. He pointed out that the truck driver caused the accident, and that TRACE was trying to get in touch with the transport company that owns the ill-fated truck.

Meanwhile, the African Church Solution Camp, which the victims attended had been reportedly gloomy, with members at the church when reporters visited the church all wearing a pensive mood.
