Two policemen were on Sunday night, shot and killed at their duty post at Heipang in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State by unknown gunmen. Two other policemen were injured in the attack.
The policemen were on duty in the village when the yet to be identified gunmen opened fire on them, according to eyewitnesses.
Mr. Mark Lipido, Coordinator of Stefanos Foundation, a non- governmental organisation, , was quoted as saying residents were now gripped with fear as a result of the attack.
Confirming the incident, spokesman of the Special Task Force (STF) maintaining security in the state, Captain Salisu Mustapha said there was a shooting but only one policeman was killed while another escaped.
He said investigations had commenced into the incident and urged residents to keep calm, promising that the police would unravel the case and catch the perpetrators whose motives are still unknown.
