As parties continue their early preparations for the next elections in 2015, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart in Oyo State, Mr Tunji Akande, has declared that the party will win the 2015 governorship election in the state.
Akande, who spoke with newsmen in Ibadan during the week, said it was clear now that the people had seen what PDP could do and what the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) could also do with its performance in government so far. According to him, voters were discerning enough to see that the PDP instituted concrete projects, while what the current administration was doing was just scratching the surface.
His words: “Everybody knew that it was the PDP that constructed roads in the state, but what this administartion is doing is to beautify those roads by planting flowers… It won’t be out of place if we refer to them as horticulturists in government. Now, if somebody institutes a project as big as building a dual carriage way and somebody comes in and begins to plant flowers, who do you think the electorate would prefer?’’
However, when asked about the different factions within the party and if this would not affect the chances of the party in the state, Akande said on the contrary, the party would come out stronger by the time all members closed ranks. He pointed out that every member knew the importance of coming together to move the party forward, while adding that it was all about the welfare of the electorate and the party in general.
