In a most worrisome development, the Commissioner for Education in Kaduna State, Alhaji Usman Mohammed has revealed that about 1,300 teachers selected from across the state failed in tests generally set for primary four pupils.
According to Daily Trust newspaper which reports this disturbing news, the commissioner, when making the shocking revelation, said that out of the total 1,599 teachers selected, only one of them scored 75 percent, 250 scored between 50 to 75 percent and 1,300 scored below 25 percent.
This development raises a really fundamental question about the quality of students that these teachers will produce. It also brings to mind a certain issue about the refusal of teachers in the South-Western state of Ekiti to take promotion tests, an issue which resulted in yet unsettled controversy between the teachers and the state government.
Finally, there is the question of how these so called teachers were appointed in the first instance, especially when there are thousands others that are more qualified, but who are currently roaming the streets, still in search of jobs.

Mass failure of teachers in Kaduna State is not a suprising things, and is not only in Kaduna, it’s a national problem!
now who do u blame, the teachers or the government? i think the government takes the blame cos the are the employers. where the right people are not given the opportunity to serve issues as this are bond to happend.
the statement is not clear whether primary school teachers or secondary school teachers.
@Ahmad Bello, yes it could be a national problem as u hv alleged but not as worst as it is in the north and some south western states coz it is no more news dat these regions mostly don’t conduct recruitments purely on merit but on sentiments ”.i.e. Na my person or our people”.
Culture they say is Universal…so is Crime.no part of the country or world is exempted.Just 2 days ago,an underground cell with human body parts was uncovered in Ijebu Ode a south western state which has been in existence 4 a very long time, were kidnapers and ritualists take people to,kill them, sell or use their body facts 4 rituals.most of the yoruba men involved are in Police net while others are still at large. But it beats my imagination how some myopic and uninformed public would quickly run to conclusion with the least amount of research dat this act is the preserve of one particular region or tribe.
That was expected performance bcos when government employs by slotting and not on merit what do you expect, currently in osun state teachers were been employ base on leg when someone scored 100 to 120 are been employed and those that scored 160 to 220 out of 300 are not employed he/she knows no one at the top.what do you expect if those who are employed are to be tested in the next one year?the so claim of the ogbeni rauf on education is destroying the future of the state what future are we expecting?
