Arsenal has opened talks with Serie A side Fiorentina over the services of top summer transfer target Stevan Jovetic.
Jovetic, valued at £25 million has been on the Gunners watch list since 2011. With both Manchester City and Juventus on the trail of the 23- year- old striker, the Gunners had delved into the market in order to seal an early deal with the club. Nonetheless, the deal would only depend on Arsenal qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
The London club would have around £70 million to spend when the transfer window opens and Wenger will want to strengthen his squad, as their London rival, Chelsea plans to be very active in the upcoming transfer window. Chelsea are the most favourite to secure the signature of Bayern Leverkusen attacking midfielder Andre Schurrle and Atletico Madrid’s striker Radamel Falcao. Wenger is aware of the possible threat these two signings could pose to the struggle for Premier League supremacy, hence, has his own plans for next season.
“I m afraid of what Chelsea can do in the summer. We have to be prepared for them, to be one of the biggest movers in terms of investment,” Wenger told Eurosport.
Wenger is also looking forward to signing a new first- choice goalkeeper and has been tracking Hamburg’s Rene Adler since March. Arsenal see the Germany international’s £8 million fee as a more viable option after receiving a quotation of £15 million for Stokes Asmir Begovic and Sunderlands Simon Mignolet.
