Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Andrey Arshavin will leave the club at the end of this summer, sighting the lack of playing time as the reason the Russian winger wouldn’t like to stay.
There are reports that Arshavin will be retiring from football at the end of the season, and Wenger hinted that he would not be offered a new deal to stay on at the Emirates Stadium.
“He is at the end of his contract at the end of the season and then he will decide what to do, but I don’t think he will stay here because he doesn’t play enough,” Wenger told reporters.
“I must say publically that I give him credit. He is working absolutely every session with 100 percent commitment and he is an example to everybody because he has been questioned about his commitment.
“If you see him every day, you would respect him for his commitment.”
Another player who is presently not getting playing time is the club’s captain, Thomas Vermaelen. However, Wenger, who recently has been fielding the duo of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, still has confidence in the Belgian.
“Thomas is a great man and a fighter. His attitude has been marvelous,” he continued.
On the recent breakthrough in goalline technology, Wenger feels the game of football only needs the right decisions. He welcomes the use of goalline technology, but wants more technologies to be introduced in the future.
