Inter Milan are the new culprit of racial misconduct in European club football after been handed a fine of 45,000 euros (around £37,900) by UEFA. This is as a result of ‘the improper conduct of their fans’ during the March 14 Europa League tie against Tottenham in which striker Emmanuel Adebayor was racially abused.
Inter Milan fans waved an inflatable banana at Adebayo and his team mates during the second leg tie in the San Siro. The Togolese footballer got a goal in that match to help Tottenham progress on away goal rule.
Manager Andre Villas- Boas insisted UEFA should act, pointing at Inter’s black record for such acts. Tottenham however lost the match 4-1.
Inter had earlier been fined by Serie A officials at the tune of £43,000 after Mario Balotelli was racially abused during the February Milan derby.
Lazio were also fined for racist chanting in their Group J tie at White Hart Lane in September and in the return leg last November.
