After his first class performance delivered the necessary three points to Borusia Dortmund and dimmed Real Madrid’s chances of winning a record 10th Champions League trophy, Robert Lewandowski is the subject of transfer rumours; this time linking the Polish striker to Old Trafford.
You may consider it stale news as Sir Alex Ferguson has always had a sort of admiration for Lewandowski who single handedly placed BVB on the driving seat, going into the second leg in a fortnight.
United sent scouts to watch the 24- year- old dent Jose Mourinho’s chances of a third champions League trophy with a third different team. But fellow German team Bayern Munich is considered to be Lewandowski’s most likely new home.
Spiegel Online reports that a €25 million (£21 million) bid from fellow Champions League semi- finalists was rejected. There are speculations suggesting Manchester United may be preparing a £30 million bid for the Warsaw born striker.
“There is a very interesting offer for Robert,” Lewandowski’s agent Malik Barthel confirmed.
Dortmund are in no rush to sell the player, not after he single handedly redeemed the club against a star studded Real Madrid. However, Lewandowski- who has just 12 months left in his current contract- has notified the club he won’t be signing a new contract after the season.
After fellow teammate Mario Gotze, agreed to a move to Bayern Munich, Lewandowski’s transfer details have been much speculated upon but have not been revealed. Even the player chose not to talk about it at the post- match press conference. But Dortmund general manager Hans- Joachim Watzke outlined the club’s determination to keep the striker for another twelve months even if it means seeing him eventually depart on a free transfer.
“Our wish is explicit that he stays here,” Watzke told Sky television. “We will even do without receiving a transfer fee for him- that doesn’t interest us in the slightest.
“Robert’s contract runs until 2014 and, unlike Mario Gotze, there is no get- out clause,” Watzke said.
Lewndowski have scored 33 goals for Dortmund this season.
