A morbidly obese mum has cost the NHS £15,000 by having a gastric band fitted… then removed when she decided she preferred being fat.

Now 20 stone and a dress size 22, Diane Wiggett has put back on almost all the 10 stone she lost following her weight-loss operation. Now she insists she is “meant to be big” and after the op reversal she “has her sparkle back”.

“I went through hell,” says Diane, 48. “I was 23-and-a-half stone and desperate to be slim so I had a gastric band.

“I lost more than 10 stone, got down to 13 stone and went from a size 28 to a 14. But it was awful.

“Before the surgery I was battling food addiction, and I’m still addicted to food today. With the band, I couldn’t get used to the small portions and hated not being able to eat what I liked.
