The game might have ended 3- 2 in favour of Rubin Kazan but London club Chelsea will progress to the Europa League semi-final on a 5- 4 aggregate. The Blues will have to wait until Friday before they know their next opponent.
Goals from Fernando Torres and Victor Moses were enough to see the London club through to the next round after a sluggish start by the home team had them play catch-up at the break.
Fernando Torres helped the European Champions take the lead after seven minutes of proceedings by lobbing the ball over keeper Sergei Ryzhikov from 30 meters following a perfect through ball from Frank Lampard.
The Russian club replied in the 51st minute to level the playing field with a header from Marcano.
Nigerian born winger, Victor Moses restored Chelsea’s lead following a collaboration on the edge of the box with Ramires.
Rubin Kazan scored two late goals in the second half. Goekdeniz Karadeniz made it 2- 2 on the night with another close range header. Firat Aydinus, the referee from Turkey must have felt comfortable gifting the home team a penalty in the 75th minute when Aleksandr Ryazantsev scandalously dived in the Chelsea area, just for him to signal a spot kick. Natcho converted the spot kick and made it 3- 2; the final score.
