The only obstacle standing between Paris St Germain manager Carlo Ancelotti and the soon- to- be- vacant manager’s job at Real Madrid is the French club wealthy owners.

The Italian met with club president Nasser Al- Khelaifi and sporting director Leonardo on Sunday to attempt to ask his way out of the newly- crowned French champions, with his most likely destination being Real Madrid.

With a year left in his contract, the club president is not willing to approve his request as the 54- year- old is expected to honour the terms of his deal.

Ancelotti confirmed his meeting with the club officials and his desire to leave Paris St Germain, but reiterates his desire to uphold the terms of his contract.

“I had a meeting with the president and Leonardo. I asked- because I have a contract- to leave the club. We have to wait for the club’s response, they will decide.”

Al- Khelaifi must have responded to his request when he told Qatari-owned television channel Beinsport: “Yes, we had discussions; he asked to depart for Real Madrid.

“I said it is not possible because he has a contract for one year more, so that is our decision.

“It is his problem, it is not our problem. We have offered him another year more on his contract as well as the one he has. When you have a contract, everyone is normally obliged to honour that.”

Ancleotti was not willing to state the reason for his request, yet, didn’t rule out the possible move to Madrid.

“Real is a possibility but I have a year left on my contract,” the Italian added. It is the club who will decide.

“We have to decide together. My decision is to leave the club. It is not easy because I have had a very good relationship with everyone.

“It is not the time to explain the reason why I wish to leave the club and perhaps I will never explain it.”

PSG sporting director Leonardo told French newspaper L’Equipe, the club has not been in contact with any possible replacement for the Italian.

“The priority is still that he stays. We have not contacted any other coaches.”
