Two gunmen were killed yesterday in Yola, Adamawa State capital, during a robbery operation.
The gunmen were shot dead by the police as they allegedly staged an armed robbery in Yola, shortly after the Muslim evening prayers.
The state police spokesman DSP Mohammed Ibrahim who confirmed the incident, said the two suspected gunmen were shot dead as they tried to escape.
According to an eye witness, the gunmen arrived in a Volkswagen Golf car and shot sporadically into the air as they tried to rob causing pandemonium.
However, the robbery was foiled as security agents quickly showed up at the scene and engaged the gunmen in a shoot-out which forced them to abandon their vehicle and escape on foot before they were gunned down by the police.
The witness said the gunmen’s vehicle was burnt down by an angry mob.
