Kano State Approves N250m For Ramadan Feeding

The Kano State government has released N250 million for this year’s Ramadan feeding, according to a statement by Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu, spokesman to the state deputy governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. 

ramadan_arabicHe said about 160 feeding centers have been designated across eight local government councils within Kano metropolis and that about 2.4 million people are expected to benefit from the gesture.

Ganduje who is the chairman of the Ramadan feeding committee added that each center is to be taken care of by five supervisors led by an imam or Islamic school head teacher.

He said the government also hired women who would be paid allowance to handle cooking at each of the 160 centers, adding that the interim management officers of the eight local government areas have also contributed five additional centers each in order to attract more people to the program.

The deputy governor further stated that apart from providing all the ingredients for the cooking such as rice, millet, beans, groundnut oil and other items, the government gives the cooks N10,000 everyday to purchase other ingredients.

He warned that any official found engaging in sharp practices like diverting food items in any center will be severely punished.

Dr. Ganduje also noted that significant improvements have been made in the current exercise as food items are no longer thrown at beneficiaries on the streets like it was done in previous years.
