The Federal Government has disclosed that it intends to tap the 639 million tonnes of coal reserves in the country to generate an additional 4,000 megawatts of electricity.
Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo, who made this known in Abuja at the inauguration of an eight-member Coal to Power Committee, headed by Sanusi Garba, stressed the importance of diversification from fuel to power saying no nation can thrive on only one or two sources of energy.
In his remarks, Mr. Garba assured the federal government that the committee will work according to its terms of reference.
