[Opinion] The Level Of Corruption In Nigeria And The Way Forward

Corruption itself is a virustic social organism that replicates in a sequential manner constituting socio-pathological effects in the host environs. The genetic nature is the bedrock behind the hereditary role in our contemporary societies. To add verisimilitude, corruption has now been verified as a substantive being to be reckoned with especially in the developing countries of the globe.
An in-depth survey into the pervert giant of Africa will give a new learner the perfect definition of corruption and its graphical illustration. Corruption has been refurbished to the extent that it earned the country an avoidable disrepute and painted its image with a life stigma. The position of the country as the second most corrupt in the world warrants total abstinence but reverse is the case as it is progressing day by day. The major problem spear-heading other ones is leadership. The rogues vying for political offices are inborn kleptomaniacs nursing the intention of amassing wealth and looting public treasury in the guise of showing dividend of democracy.
Late 2011, the major road leading to maximum security prison, kirikiri was full of entourage of exotic cars containing political warlords and miscreants all with the view to receiving an inmate convicted of looting the public treasury. Immediately after the formal freedom, the political cohort of the ex-convict organised a grand reception costing millions of naira in one of the luxurious hotels in Lagos. Of what didactic nature is this teaching our youth? Showing the upcoming generation the substantial gain to be derived from corruption. Nigeria is a country where mediocrity is celebrated in a grand style ignoring other viable things.
Students who are supposed to be the cleansing agent canvassing for the eradication of reprehensible acts have now turned into puppets in the hands of political bidders. Imagine a situation where students are used for the mission of vendettas during election period, whereas their progenies are enjoying the privilege of prosperity schooling at Harvard.
This cry for insanity according to the Ogundipe Oluwasegun David of unilorin does not end there, the group of African students under the auspices of All African Students union now deemed it fit to confer a leadership award on the said ex-convict. This development nearly landed me in a psychiatric home when i looked up my lexicon for the definition of leadership because it gave me a mind-boggling moment whether the dictionary is correct. In fact corruption is now irresistible for the leaders of tomorrow we committed our future in.
The administration of the day is failing in discharging its full constitutional responsibility due to the unavoidable nature of corruption in existence. The funds that are meant in driving economic, political, social and infrastructural development are siphoned to implement peripheral needs such as wardrobe allowances, car allowance and host of others for the covetous office holders. The recent development in the country is the controversial aim of the federal government to build an edifice for our homeless vice president. At least a foreigner passing across the national library in Ilorin will give the best description of Nigeria in the area of development.
The perfect way of salvaging Nigeria from these reprehensible acts can only be done by our youth, If the youth can reform themselves, it will be practically impossible for its non-stoppage. In addition, i think from my own perspective, if corruption is given tolerance by implementing capital punishment on any person guilty of the acts, it will serve as deterrent and reduce it to the barest minimum.
