Boko Haram’s Not In Ogun State, Gov. Amosun Assures Residents

Ibikunle AmosunGovernor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State on Thursday debunked the claim by a serving Senator that members of the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, have infiltrated the state.

The governor assured residents of the state that insurgents would not be allowed to operate in the state and environs.

Gov. Amosun was reacting to a statement credited to Senator Babafemi Ojodu (APC, Ekiti) at a lecture organized to mark the 70th birthday of Ropo Sekoni, a retired Professor, on Wednesday in Lagos.

He said: “We were told by the military that the sect members are moving into Ogere in Ogun State, Lagos and Port Harcourt.”

But in an interview with journalists shortly after Eid-El-Fitri prayer session held at Lantoro Playing Ground in Abeokuta, Gov. Amosun debunked that claim.

“I can assure you there is nothing like that; No Boko Haram in our state, we won’t allow them, they won’t and can’t operate here. I can assure residents and citizens of a peaceful atmosphere,” he said.

In his Sallah message to Muslims, the governor urged them to continue to abide by the tenets of Ramadan.

“I want to call on our Muslim brothers and sisters to sustain the lessons learnt during the period of Ramadan. We should also leave in peace and harmony as Islamic religion preaches,”Gov. Amosun said
