The Imo Police Command on Thursday said Ohaji Local Government Area had become a hot bed for criminal activities in the state.
Addressing newsmen in Owerri, the command Public Relations Officer, DSP Joy Elemoko, said the area had become a den for armed robbers.
Elemoko also said that efforts had been intensified by the police to contain the criminal activities in the area.
Part of the efforts, she said was the inauguration of “Operation Puff Adder” by the sate command aimed at flushing out criminals.
The command also paraded three suspects for allegedly vandalising NITEL equipment.
They were arrested in Oguta on Aug. 17 in possession of optic cables estimated at N10 million.
Elemoko said the command recovered a Mercedes Benz truck loaded with optic cables and a Toyota Corolla from the suspects.
He said 16 suspects were arrested by army officers deployed to Ikri, Oguta, in possession of a trailer load of pipes valued at N5 million naira.
The leader of one of the vandals told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the pipes were to be sold at N20,000 each.
The command also recovered three fuel dispensers valued at N4.5 million from a filling station in Orumba, Anambra. (NAN)
