The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Abubakar, has confirmed his plans to remarry one year after the death of his wife, Maryam.

The police chief, Information Nigeria earlier reported, is set to wed a lady identified as Safiya.

In a formal confirmation of the development, Mr. Abubakar, who spoke through the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba in Abuja on Wednesday said the wedding has been tentatively fixed for Sept. 14.

Mba, however, said the confirmation does not serve as an invitation to the public since it is a private affair.

“I want to appeal to the media to respect the privacy of the intending couple.

“We must all remember that that there is a line between Mohammed Abubkar as a private citizen of Nigeria and the office of the Inspector General of Police.

“As much as possible, we urge the media to respect the privacy of his life and strike a very good balance between his quest for legitimate public interest and information’’, Mba said.

Information Nigeria recalled that shortly after Abubakar assumed office in acting capacity, his wife, Maryam, lost the battle to cancer in January 2012.
