Atletico Madrid have agreed a three-year contract extension with Liverpool target Diego Costa which will keep the Brazilian striker in the Spanish capital until 2018.
The 24-year-old scored 20 goals in all competitions last season for Atletico on their way to finishing third in the La Liga.
“Costa is one of the key pieces in the team and it continues our policy of trying to maintain the group that have brought us so much success in recent years,” said Atletico sports director Jose Luis Caminero.
Costa, who was the subject of a £21m bid from by Liverpool on August 1, joined Atletico from Valladolid in 2010.
“I am very happy with the deal, it is a special moment,” he told Atletico’s website.
Meanwhile Hull City are set to complete the signings of Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore from Tottenham Hotspur.
Talks are ongoing between the Premier League newcomers and Huddlestone, 26, which if successful, would see him complete a move for a fee in the region of £5m.
Livermore, who appeared 19 times for Spurs last season will join “The Tigers” on a season long loan.
West Bromwich Albion have re-signed Zoltan Geran on a one-year contract.
Gera’s deal at West Brom expired earlier this summer, but the club invited the 34-year-old midfielder to join them for pre-season training.
Gera is still working his way back to full fitness after suffering a cruciate knee injury in January.
Liverpool have opened transfer talks with Anzhi Makhachkala over Brazilian winger Willian according to the Daily Mirror.
The Russian club have reportedly indicated they are willing to sell the 25-year-old for Corinthians player just eight months after buying him from Shakhtar Donetsk for £32m.
Chelsea are considering a move for Anzhi’s striker Samuel Eto’o, 32. Blues boss Jose Mourinho worked with the Cameroon international while at Inter Milan and the player has issued out a come-and-get-me plea as the uncertainties hovering round the managerial job of the Russian club continues.
Finally Inter has signed Chelsea’s right-back Wallace on a season-long loan. The 19-year-old made his senior debut at Fluminense and signed for Chelsea earlier this year before being loaned beck to the Brazilian club.
