The brother of Manchester United player Wilfried Zaha has dodged a jail sentence for theft and criminal damage.
Serge Zaha instead received a nine-month community order at Croydon Magistrates’ Court in south London and was told he will be supervised during that period to make sure he ‘behaves’.
The Mirror reports that 31-year-old Serge pleaded guilty to stealing a mobile phone and causing criminal damage while at a police station.
The court heard how Serge stole a BlackBerry phone from a man in a Boots store at the Whitgift shopping centre in Croydon.
And when Serge was taken into police custody on March 22 by officers investigating the theft, he destroyed a pamphlet entitled the Police Code of Practice.
The verdict comes just two months after his last appearance at the same court when he was served with an eviction notice from his council flat in New Addington after complaints from neighbours about threats and antisocial behaviour.
Magistrates heard how Serge pinned a resident against a wall and threatened to ‘f****** pop her in the head’.
Wilfried, who is 11 years younger than Serge, made his competitive debut for United against Wigan in the Community Shield on Sunday after signing from Crystal Palace in a £15million transfer deal.
