10 Killed, Buildings Razed As Boko Haram Attacks Borno Villages

Suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists, yesterday, invaded villages in Kawuri district and Fori of Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, in the morning, killing 10 residents, including three vigilante youths, suspected to be Civilian JTF.

The killings come barely 24 hours after the insurgents’ attack on Logomani village in Dikwa Local Government Area of the state left 20 dead and 10 injured.

Kawuri district is 20 kilometres from Bama Local Government Area, which had witnessed series of attacks and killings of civilians, soldiers, policemen and prison warders.

Although details of the attack were still sketchy, report had it that the gunmen, numbering about 30, came in two Hilux vehicles and motorcycles, using rocket-propelled launchers and improvised explosive devices, IEDs.

They were said to have stormed the village at 3a.m., ordered residents to come out from their houses and opened fire on them.

They threw explosives and petrol bombs into some private and public structures.

It was gathered that the three vigilante youths that were killed attempted to arrest the fleeing gunmen, but were shot dead in a bush near Fori village by the attackers.

A female passenger, who gave her name as Madam Hauwa Musa, said that she was among the early passengers from Mubi town to Maiduguri after the attack in Kawuri villages.

She said: “I was among the passengers that boarded a taxi from Mubi to Maiduguri. In the villages along the main road, we saw some burnt buildings.

“There were security operatives and men of the vigilante youth, popularly called Civilian JTF, in the village. The attackers had fled into the bushes.”

Some residential houses and public buildings, such as clinics and a primary school, were affected.
