A 40-year-old driver, Adewale Adesanya, was arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on a two-count charge of manslaughter and reckless driving on Tuesday.
According to the police prosecutor, Cpl. Rosemary Brown, the accused committed the offence on Sept. 27 at 2.30 p.m. near Excel Primary School on Ilogbo-Oju-Ore road, Sango Ota.
The accused drove his Mitsubishi gallant car with Lagos registration number SMK 916 BL recklessly and killed a 47-year-old Sunday Balogun.
The prosecutor said the other victim, Mr Ibrahim Otefila, was still receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state.
The offences contravened sections 17 and 18 of the Road Traffic Act 29 Vol. 21 of the revised laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr Adenariwo Soneye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Soneye said one of the sureties must be gainfully employed in the services of Ogun.
The other surety, according to the magistrate, should be a landed property owner.
Both sureties, Soneye said, should reside within the jurisdiction of the court and the addresses must be verified by the police.
The case was adjourned to Dec. 12 for mention.
