Juan-Martin del Potro surprisingly knocked Spaniard Rafael Nadal out of Sunday’s Shanghai Masters final
The 25-year-old Argentine stunned the world number one 6-2, 6-4 to set up Novak Djokovic, who saw off France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the other semi-final early on.
Nadal, who had not lost his serve prior to match, was broken in his first service game as Del Potro raced into a 4-0 lead.
The highly-motivated Argentine displayed superb form and Nadal was unable to gain a single break in a fired-up contest which lasted for one hour and 46 minutes.
It will be the second time Nadal has failed to reach the final of a tournament he has entered in the 2013 season, the other been his shock first-round loss to Steve Darcis at the All England Club in Wimbledon.
