Nigeria’s most outstanding man at the 2013 Afrobasket in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivore, Ike Diogu, is set to miss the new NBA season after his new basketball franchise, New York Knicks, listed him among the players waived ahead of the new NBA season which began on Tuesday.
Another Nigerian, who featured for D’Tigers in Abidjan, Gani Lawal, also suffered the same faith as Diogu.
Diogu penned down a deal with the Knicks ahead of the 2013/14 season and averaged 7.2 points per game , 4 rebounds per game, 0.2 assist per game and 0.3 block per game in 16 minutes in his pre-season games. His name was listed among the 4 guys waived for the new season.
Centre Lawal moved East coast to play for the Philadelphia 76ers after he was released by Latvian club VEF Riga. He averaged 1.0 points per game, 1.3 rebound per game and 0.2 blocks per game in his 4.7 minutes of basketball action in 3 games .
