Nigeria international Yakubu Aiyegbeni continued his fine goalscoring form on Saturday, netting the winner for Guangzhou R&F in their 1-0 win over Changchun Yatai, while Lukman Haruna contributed to Dynamo Kyiv’s 9-1 humiliation of Metalurh Donetsk.
Haruna, who has now scored thrice in 11 appearances for the Ukrainian Premier League outfit, netted his side’s 6th goal within 15 minutes of coming on for Portuguese playmaker Miguel Veloso after 67 minutes of play.
Aiyegbeni’s 56th-minute predatory effort helped Guangzhou R&F climb up to the fifth place in the Chinese Super League (CSL) with 36 points from 27 matches.
The former Everton FC striker latched onto a precise pass from Brazilian teammate, Rafael Coelho, to coolly lift the ball past the onrushing Changchun Yatai goalkeeper, Song Zhenyu.
Aiyegbeni has now scored 13 goals in the CSL season which reached Matchday 27 over the weekend.
Elsewhere in England, Osaze Odemwingie got his first Premier League goal for Cardiff which was not enough to avert another defeat to coach Malky Mackay’s side.
Odemwingie’s second-half strike failed to lift Cardiff City over Newcastle, after Loic Remy had already scored twice to help the ‘Magpies’ grab all three points.
