Nigeria’s Challenges Not Caused By Politicians Alone, Says Indicted Lagos Speaker

IkuforijiThe Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, on Thursday pleaded with Nigerians to stop heaping all the nation’s woes on politicians.

Mr. Ikuforiji made the plea while fielding questions from journalists shortly after paying a condolence visit to the family of the late Olumide Omojola at his residence in Surulere, Lagos.

Mr. Omojola, the Head, Pro-National Conference Organisation (PRONACO) Secretariat, slumped and died after making a presentation before the Presidential Advisory Committee on National Conference in Akure, Ondo State capital.

Mr. Omojola, also a foremost revolutionary teacher and leader, died on October 19 at the age of 75.

Mr. Ikuforiji, who is being prosecuted for a N500 million fraud by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, led other lawmakers on the visit. He said that every Nigerian contributed to the current challenges facing the country.

“All of us have gone the wrong way; we all need to retrace our steps.

“We should imbibe the doctrine of being our brothers’ keepers. By doing so, we can do better than even the Western nations”, the lawmaker added.

Mr. Ikuforiji described the late Mr. Omojola as a great man worthy of emulation by all Nigerians.

“When you compare his exemplary beginning with the life he led, you will discover that he stood for the masses in his entire life.

“This is a man who stood on the path of truth and justice, asking the powers that be to do the right thing for the nation, to enable the people to enjoy the dividends of governance.

“Those that do not have as much education as he did are having mighty mansions. This is a man you cannot even trace any misdeed to,” Mr. Ikuforiji said.

The widow, Yewande Omojola, thanked the lawmakers for their condolence visit.

  1. I disagree with Mr Ikuforiji. I have never been involved in the looting of our commonwealth. It is people like him who having been rejected by his constituency in Epe was imposed on Ikeja constituency so that he can continue with his looting agenda. He should not categorize every Nigerian as a crook. He should rather return his loots.
