Suntai, Taraba Assembly Agree To Settle Out Of Court

SuntaiA Jalingo High CourtĀ  in Taraba State on Monday adjourned the suit brought by Governor Danbaba Danfulani Suntai againstĀ  Speaker Haruna Tsokwa and the Taraba State House of Assembly to October 28, 2013 to allow parties in the matter explore an out of court settlement.

At the resumed hearing yesterday of the case in court, lead counsel to Governor Suntai, Dr Alex Izinyon, whose brief was held by E.A. Nyaro, requested the court to reserve its ruling and adjourn the case by three weeks to enable parties in the suit explore ways of amicably resolving the matter out of court.

ā€œThough the matter was adjourned for ruling, I have instruction from the lead counsel to apply that the ruling be deferred and adjourned by about three weeks. This is because the parties to this suit are exploring a possible and amicable resolution out of court. And as counsel, we encourage parties to do so if they so wishā€, he added.

In his response, counsel to the Speaker, Yusufu Akirikwen accepted the request to explore an out of court settlement.

Counsel to Taraba State House of Assembly, A.O. Adelodun equally did not object to the application of settling the matter out of court, saying: ā€œMy Lord, our client, the Taraba State House of Assembly is interested in any step that will bring about peace in Taraba Stateā€.

After listening to all the parties involved, Justice Ali Andeyantso said though the ruling was ready, he had no option than to defer it since the plaintiff and defence counsel in the matter are in support of out of court settlement option.

ā€œI have no option than to allow the parties explore peaceful and amicable resolution of the matter. What every citizen needs and indeed the nation needs is peace,ā€ he added.

The matter was adjourned to October 28, 2013 to enable parties explore peaceful and amicable resolution of the matter.
