Abubakar said that when completed, the road which links Northern and Southern Nigeria would boost socio-economic activities in the area and adjourning communities.

He said the communities would give maximum cooperation to ensure successful rehabilitation of the road.

Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger commended the Federal Government’s efforts in ensuring that all road networks were linked and in good shape.

He emphasised the state government’s readiness and support for enhancing reforms in the road sector.

“Niger State is the largest in size with 10 per cent of Nigeria’s land mass and about 30 per cent of federal road networks.

“There is no doubt that these roads when fixed will boost socio-economic activities of the state and benefiting communities as well as enhancing the quality of lives of the people,” he said.

Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed, a civil servant with the state Ministry of Works, commended the Federal Government and said there was also a need for the reconstruction of Mokwa -Jebba Road.

“The road looks deteriorated beyond repairs but if concessionaires are allowed to handle the project, the road will definitely be in good shape,” he said.

He also called for a transparent tolling system where funds for road maintenance would be kept intact. (NAN)
