The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said it is yet to determine the health status of Clara, the wife of Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime.
Some time ago Clara Chime filed a petition to the NHRC, in which petition she accused her husband of illegal keeping her under house arrest and other forms of abuses.
An interim report of investigation on a petition suggested that Mrs. Chime had health challenges.
In response to this Clara accused the commission of being biased and trying to damage her reputation.
However, the commission, in a statement by its Director of Public Affairs and Communications, Muhammed Ladan, on Sunday explained that it had not determined Mrs. Chime’s health status.
The statement was issued to clarify the interim report. It is pointed out in the document that the commission has never claimed to have established that the governor’s wife has health challenges.
The following information is stated therein:
“The attention of the National Human Rights Commission has been drawn to media reports which suggested that the commission had established that Chime, suffers from health challenges.”
“This implies that the commission is biased and has already taken a decision on her complaint, which is far from the truth.
It was also pointed out that Mrs. Chime’s petition was still under investigation, carried out in accordance with the relevant rules of the body and that Chime’s health state was yet to be determined.
It was claimed that the commission had to address the press regarding the complaint received from the governor’s wife, because it had attracted considerable media attention and generated a lot of public interest.”
