The Police Command in Benue on Wednesday confirmed the killing of two of its officers attached to the state secretariat in Makurdi by armed robbers.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Daniel Ezeala, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi.
He said the officers lost their lives during an exchange of fire with the robbers.
Ezeala said the officers, who accompanied staff of the secretariat to a bank, were attacked on their way back to the secretariat.
He regretted that the attack was carried out in broad day light and advised residents to be vigilant at all times.
He said the robbers were monitoring the vehicle, adding, “the robbers overtook the vehicle and opened fire on the occupants, thereby killing the policemen’’.
Ezeala said the exact amount taken away by the robbers was yet to be ascertained.
He said that the police were investigating the incident, urging members of the public with useful information to contact the command. [NAN]
