The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as reckless, irresponsible and totally condemnable the alleged threat by former militant leader, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo to wage war against Nigeria if President Goodluck Jonathan is defeated even in a free and fair election in 2015.
The opposition party said the Department of State Security Services, DSS, must act immediately or be damned.
“There is no better test of the fairness, non-partisanship and professionalism of the SSS than this Asari-Dokubo’s threat to levy war on his own country. If Asari-Dokubo is not above the laws of the land, he must be hauled before the SSS, just like the service did to our Deputy National Secretary, to explain his statement”, APC said.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday signed by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, APC said despite the attacks by oil militants in the Niger Delta and the ongoing insurgency by Boko Haram in some parts of the North, Nigeria has not experienced a clearer and louder call to war than Asari-Dokubo’s senseless vituperation since the country’s civil war ended in 1970.
The party explained that Nigerians are waiting to see what the SSS, which recently detained former FCT Minister and APC’s Deputy National Secretary, Nasir El-Rufai over his warning against election rigging in 2015, will do now that an ally of President Jonathan has threatened the very existence of Nigeria, by saying he and his fellow militants would cripple the economy of the country not only in the creeks but also in Nigeria’s territorial waters.
“What on earth gave Asari-Dokubo the confidence to issue threats against a whole nation? If he doesn’t care about elections and democracy, how else could his hero, President Jonathan, have come to power? Does he know the meaning of anarchy? Does he think anyone, no matter how big, is more important than his country or bigger than its constitution?
“When he said President Jonathan ‘must complete the mandatory constitutionally-allowable two terms of eight years’ or the militants will make Nigeria ungovernable, was he aware that even the North that has become his favourite whipping boy did not complete its own eight years before his kinsman became President?
“It is not Asari-Dokubo’s fault. When we warned against the handing over of the nation’s maritime security to a company owned by an ex-militant in 2012, many thought we were crying wolf where none existed. But the threat by an ex-militant to ensure that no vessel will be allowed to enter the nation’s territorial waters unless President Jonathan is re-elected has shown the dangers inherent in such actions”, APC said
The party wondered why Mr. Jonathan, who has often repeated that his ambition is not worth shedding the blood of any Nigerian, has neither condemned nor call to order his out-of-control kinsmen like Asari-Dokubo, who speak either on his behalf or for his benefit.
I think Buhari is above the law when he was making his own coment publicly,no 1questioned him all northaners and opposition parties enjoyed it.
My sojestion is that buhari should keep quit and stop fooling him self publicly and should go and respect his old age.
Nigeria is almost a no abiding law nation and leaders does any thing they like any time any where. If an ordinary man speeks any how,they would have neither kill him publicly or secretly.
Our leaders have and is dooming this nation.
APC u people are stupid , very stupid! Buhari made a worse statement earlier, not only makin a threat but also lived up to it. Nobody said anythin. Till now Nigeria is almost ungovernabl bcos of threats made by Northerners earlier. Everybody kept mute. Now Asari is followin in dere footsteps & dey are now callin SSS. Imagine if an ex millitant like tukubo asari will say this wht do expect the presedent to say why wont u guys jst come out publicky and tell the northerners if by chance GEJ is not reinstated as a president “wht will never hpnd with God grace” u are going to werge war on the northerners i think it will be more admirable pls look @ hw nothern is masacare and u still expect the northerners to re-elect GEJ for the second time as president may he die today………..
Nothing is impossible. Who knows if it is APC or the President’s pollitical enemies Who bought Dokubo to make the said statement, to destroy the economy of the country if Jonathan is denied a second tenure. After all is Governor Amaechi not the President’s kinsman but is being used to destroy the rare opportunity the south south has to rule this country. But is Dokubo’s statement more serious than that of the APC presidential candidate come 2015?
APC are trying to cause another way,trying to deny the right owner of nigerian wealth the second term may bring back war,as niger delta will not watch u cheating on them.either u give caesar/God
If APC is sincere they should equally call for the arrest of buhari because Asari dokubo was responding to buhari who made similar statement or is buhari above the law.
