Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi chose not to grace the Presidential reception for his African Nations Championship (CHAN) squad on Thursday.
The 52-year-old tactician flew out to the United States of America on holidays, after his employers had already informed him to stay back for the gala.
The coach was rewarded with a sum of 1.5 million Naira by President Goodluck Jonathan after guiding the home-based Eagles to a third-place finish in their debut appearance at the CHAN tournament. Each member of the 23-man squad was given 1 million Naira, while the three assistant coaches also got 1 million Naira. the seven backroom staff received 500,000 Naira.
Keshi’s absence also had an effect on Wednesday’s technical committee meeting in Abuja, where he was expected to defend his call-ups for next month’s World Cup warm-up against Mexico.
He would later talk with the NFF technical committee on phone from his house in the US.
