Arsenal could land Jackson Martinez in the summer, after the FC Porto striker admitted he is seeking a transfer to a ‘big club’, reports UK news tabloid Metro.
The Gunners have included Martinez’s name among the list of their key targets in the summer as their French boss Arsene Wenger braces up for a spending spree next summer.
Martinez, who has scored 39 goals in 47 matches since moving to Europe from Mexico, has previously admitted he would ‘love’ to play for Arsenal – as he grew up supporting the Gunners.
The 27-year-old attacker is now looks on the verge of making his dream move, after telling the Portuguese media he wants to depart Porto as soon as possible.
“I think there will be a chance of a move in the summer,” he said.
“I’m happy at Porto, but it would be nice to play in another big club. I like the English league – this is well known of course.”
Other reports suggests Wenger has planned an £80m swoop for the trio of Martinez, Borussia Dortmund’s Lukasz Piszczek, and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender in the summer.
But Wenger refused to speak on his transfer targets in his pre-match conference for Liverpool on Thursday, saying: “My eye is not on the transfer market at the moment”.
