Arsenal have completed the signing of Sweden midfielder Kim Kallstrom on loan from Spartak Moscow until the end of the season.
The Gunners decided not to continue in their pursuit for Schalke’s Julian Draxler in the winter Transfer Window to see through a Transfer Deadline Day deal for the ex-Stade Rennais and Olympic Lyonnais player.
The 31-year-old is a central midfielder who can also play out wide on the left side of midfield, work deep from the defence or as a more attacking influence.
And with Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott set for an extended period on the sideline, Kallstrom could help boost Arsenal’s title credentials in the run-in to the ongoing campaign.
He scored three goals in 30 league appearances for Spartak and has seen the back of the net 16 times in his 98 cap for the Sweden national team.
Wenger said: “Kim Kallstrom is a hugely-experienced player. He is a midfielder with proven quality at both club and international level. We welcome Kim to Arsenal.
Kallstrom said: Arsenal is an amazing club with a lot of great players and a coach who has done really well here for a long time. I am so pleased to come here to learn as much as possible. I’m here to do my best for Arsenal and to help out the team, so we can achieve good results for the last part of the season.”
