sullivan_chime_govGovernor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has appealed to the Federal Government to fast-track the rehabilitation of all bad federal roads in the South East.

Chime made the call in Enugu on Friday at the opening ceremony of the 25th Enugu International Trade Fair.

The governor represented by Chief Ikechukwu Ugwuegede, Commissioner for Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, said the move would ensure that people benefited from infrastructure development.

“We call on the FG for greater commitment to the speedy rehabilitation of federal roads in the zone, especially those that lead in and out of Enugu.

“This will offer a consolidation of our modest effort as a state government and enhance the economic potential of the South East”.

He said the people would continue to support the federal government in order to raise the standard of living.

Chime commended the federal government for the approval to establish a free trade zone at the 9th Mile Corner in Enugu.

“Here in Enugu, we have made infrastructure development, service delivery and security of lives and property our priorities.

“We are taking priority measures to reduce impediments to trade in Enugu, including multiple taxations, poor access to bank facilities as well as making the state the economic hub of the South East and Nigeria.

“We remain grateful and indebted to President Goodluck Jonathan for upgrading the Akanu Ibiam airport to international status and approval for the establishment of a free trade zone at the 9th mile corner”, he said.

Chime said that security in the state had increased the influx of industrialists.

“Enugu has become the choice destination for foreign and local investors in all sectors of the economy”, Chime said.

President of Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Dr Ifeanyi Okoye, commended the state government for its support and cooperation.

Okoye said government provided the chamber with land for the development of its administrative office as well as rehabilitated the roads in the fair ground.
