Mourinho Advocates Friday Night Football for English League

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants English clubs involved in European competitions to be allowed to play domestic games on Friday nights.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have been scheduled to visit Aston Villa on Saturday night before hosting Galatasaray in the return leg of their round of 16 tie on Tuesday night.

Both Chelsea and Gala played out a 1-1 draw in Istanbul in the first-leg and the Turkish champions, who are already through with this weekend’s league fixture- a 0-0 draw with Karabukspor on Friday night-, have around 24 hours extra preparation time.

“If we played on Friday night, it makes a difference to who? It’d be a full house, the same,” said Mourinho.

“If it was the only match on TV, the (audience) share would be fantastic.”

Mourinho says he is indifferent on television companies’ influence on match schedules, but wants the English football authorities to consult with clubs more.

It suits his club and English football at large, the Portuguese boss admits.

“Would it be good for Chelsea? Yes. Would it be good for English football? Yes,” the 51-year-old manager added.
