The National Assembly Complex in Abuja was Tuesday vacated by Legislators and civil servants following a bomb scare around the complex.
Still reeling from the shock of Monday bomb blast at Nyanya motor park in the city, workers at the complex were apprehensive, with offices, banks and restaurants within the premises quickly locked up, while officers of the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Security Service were alerted and they quickly mobilised and were seen patrolling the area to avert any mishap.
The confusion, which started around 2 p.m., followed a tip allegedly given during a meeting between the clerk of the National Assembly and management staff.
The tension spread as far as the Federal Secretariat and civil servants were seen trooping out of their offices.
Some of the workers, who were rushing out of the premises, said that their superiors directed them to lock-up and go home.
However, in his reaction, Acting Sergeant-at-Arms, Mr Ibrahim Ndako, said the bomb scare was a mere rumour and should be disregarded.
“There is nothing like that. It was just a rumour. Those banks that closed chose to close. We have told you that there is nothing like that. It is all rumour,” Ndako said.
We’ve seen & heard of such propaganda before the UN building’s bombing, it came to pass, Louis Edet’s house it came to pass as well. This is the bane of insecurity in my beloved nation! Yet our political class continue to bamboozle us while we lost a senator to such don’t-panic-propagandist!!! My advise to all Nigerians is to report any suspicious movements around & act with vigilance. So help us GOD!!!
I think is high time we civillians fight back at bokoharam less we end up loosing evrybdy.we cant continue depending on the Army for they ar corrupt.Infact, 4 me, Nigeria have no army.period.
