Ace Nollywood filmmaker, director, writer, Amaka Igwe has been pronounced dead! She was 51 years old.
The iconic Nollywood figure, who is responsible for some of the popular sitcoms and TV soaps like Checkmate and Fuji house of commotion and award winning films like Rattlesnake and Violated reportedly passed on last night, April 28, 2014 after battling with Asthma attack. She was rushed to a hospital in Enugu (she was in the company of her husband for pre-production preparations for a new Igbo soap) and was pronounced dead on getting there.
She was also the founder of Amaka Igwe Studios and Top FM Radio. She was the Initiator of BOBTV an annual conference of TV producers and equipment manufacturers which has been hosting in Abuja for over a decade now.
Amaka Igwe studied Education/Religion at the University of Ife (Now Obafemi Awolowo University). She had a Master’s Degree from the University of Ibadan. She had her early education at All Saints School (Now Trans Ekulu Primary School), Girls High School Awkunanaw, Enugu and Idia College, Benin.
She worked as a lecturer at the Anambra State University of Technology and briefly in oil and Gas, before settling for the motion picture industry.
Amaka, who hails from Obinagu, Enugu, Nigeria is survived by her husband of 21 years Charles Igwe, 3 kids and an aged mother.
