Blatter Announces He Will Run for Fifa President in 2015

Joseph Sepp Blatter will stand for the fifth time as president of the Federation of International Football Association (Fifa) in 2015.

The 78-year-old Swiss was elected on 8 June 1998, succeeding João Havelange as the eighth president of world football’s governing body and was re-elected in 2002, 2007 and unopposed in 2011.

“I’m a candidate again,” Blatter told Swiss newspaper Blick. “My mandate has ended but my mission is not finished.”

He had earlier stated that imposing age limit on sports administrators is an “act of discrimination” during a debate on whether to change the 70-year age limit for members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Thursday.

On that condition, Blatter, who became an IOC member in 1999, before the 70-year limit was enacted, is eligible to serve until the age of 80.
