Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal could be set to sanction the shock sale of Juan Mata, in order to make room for Bayern Munich star Bastian
Schweinsteiger.
According to French newspaper Le 10 Sport, the Dutchman is incredibly eager to be reunited with the German midfielder – whom he coached during his
time in charge of Bayern – and believes that there’s a good chance he could get him as Pep Guardiola looks to introduce youngster Thiago Alcantara to his
starting XI in a more permanent role. Reports yesterday claimed that Mata’s future at Old Trafford was far from secure, despite the fact he was only
bought in on an expensive deal in January.
And now Le 10 is speculating that Van Gaal would be prepared to offload Mata to make room for Schweinsteiger, with Barcelona said to be keen on taking the Spaniard back to his home nation as Luis
Enrique looks to shake things up at the Nou Camp.
The likes of Pedro, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Song have been rumoured to be on their way out of Catalonia, and Mata is just one of a list of players Barca chiefs are aiming to bring in.
As things stand for Van Gaal it seems imperative that he lands Schweinsteiger. Having already been rejected by Willian Carvalho, Arjen Robben, Toni Kroos and Kevin Strootman the list of potential
acquisitions who fall into the top-class category is growing precariously thin.{GMS}
