Amaechi Morton, Nicole Denby Headline Warri Relays

The fourth Warri Relays/Golden League meet was concluded at the Warri Township Stadium, Delta State, over the weekends.

The meeting came one week to the national trials in Calabar, set to be employed in selecting Nigerian athletics team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games as well as the Africa Championships in Marrakesh, Morocco.

United States of America (USA)-based Amaechi Cristian Cuevas Morton and Nicole Denby were among the winners at the fourth leg of the Golden League.

Amaechi Morton won the men’s 400m Hurdles event in 49.39secs ahead of Eric Alejandro of Puerto-Rico (49.93), while Henry Okorie of the Nigeria Customs emerged third in 51.82.

Nicole Denby beat fierce rival Ugonna Ndu by 0.11secs to clinch the women’s 100m Hurdles in 13.63secs.

In other men’s events, valencia-based Samson Idiata won the long jump and Tosin Oke took the triple jump after achieving distances of 7.81m and 16.46m respectively.

This week’s All Nigeria/ Cross River State Atletics Championships is billed for the UJ Esuene Stadium from thursday, 19th June to Sunday 22nd.
