President Goodluck Jonathan today assured parents of the girls abducted by militant Islamist group Boko Haram that the government is doing everything possible to secure their release.
“Anyone who gives you the impression that we are aloof and that we are not doing what we are supposed to do to get the girls out is not being truthful. Our commitment is not just to get the girls out, it is also to rout Boko Haram completely from Nigeria,” Jonathan told the parents.
“But we are very, very mindful of the safety of the girls. We want to return them all alive to their parents,” he said.
Jonathan met the parents for the first time on Tuesday after girl-child education campaigner Malala Yousafzai visited Nigeria and met representatives from the community, including some of the parents.
Jonathan, who had being accused of handling the crisis badly had wanted to seize the opportunity of having some of the parents in Abuja to. convene a meeting, but they declined, saying it had been organised in a hurry, so there was not time to consult with all the parents.
Jonathan blamed the community’s stance on the #BringBackOurGirls campaign group, which he accused of playing politics and derailing the meeting.
A total of 177 people – including 51 of the girls who managed to escape Boko Haram’s captivity – met President Jonathan, reports the BBC.
The parents left the meeting without showing emotion but some shook hands with the
president, AP reports, adding that some of the escaped schoolgirls smiled for photographers after the meeting.
Three Different Objectives from Three Stakeholders on Bokoharam & Solutions.
(1) FGN: The Federal Govt.of Nigeria want to eradicate bokoaram through force or peaceful negotiation. (Eradication)
(2) The State Govts: They identify with the calamity of their citizens and want to be fully in charge politically. They would not wish to loose in the next election. (Politics)
(3) The Affected Citizens: They want peace but there are divisions, some have sympathy for bokoaram. These are religeos bigotry, tribalists & hoodlums. (Divisions)
SOLUTIONS: (1)Aggresive enlightment & education to all citizens on importance of tolerance for other religion & co-habitation, knowing fully well other tribes are in different geopolitcal zones. The FGN should lay more emphasis on peaceful resolution than using force.(PURSUE PEACE & AGRESSIVE ENLIGHTMENT)
(2) Let the present Governors serve there terms but no further election in the 3 N.E. States until normalcy returns. Let Administrators replace the Governors as from May 2015.(REMOVE POLITICS)
(3) The citizens of the most affected states should forget the idea of Islamic state. If they want peace sincerely they should join hands to tolerate other religion & tribes. (UNITY)
Mr.Adeniyi Adisa, truly u er one of d few focused Nigerian who have the heart of a nationalist. If IBRAHIM had a way ,i would hv call upon our father of the nation Baba GEJ to appoint u as a Federal Minister of Peace.Gudus to you.Keep it up.May ALLAH be wt u always Amin.
Tx my bro Ibrahim. All glory be unto the LORD. It was a divine revelation & unless the 3 groups agree together solution to bokoaram would be elusive. Can two walk together unless they agree. Two agreeing heads are better than one & three folded cords are not easily broken. They must be folded together in agrrement.
The Almighty GOD is highly interested in a peaceful & united Nigeria.GOD bless Nigeria!!!!!!
