The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), in a bold step to enforce its classification decisions recently clamped down on sellers of pornographic and unclassified movies in parts of Ikoyi, in Lagos State.
The raid which was carried out in collaboration with the men of the Nigeria Police attached to the Dolphin Divisional Police Station, took place in Obalende, Dolphin and Awolowo Road areas of the State.
The raid met with strong resistance by the film sellers, particularly in Obalende, resulting in the arrest of six of the film sellers by the Police. No fewer than two thousand copies of unclassified, mainly multiple in one films, both local and foreign and pornographic materials were confiscated by the staff of the Board, in collaboration with the Police.
Prominent among the unclassified films seized, according to a statement by the Board included; Season 5,Arab Money, Estate Runs , The Wrong Target, Ritual Men, Ashawo Umunede, Blood Tonic, Strippers in Love, After the Sex among others.
Speaking on the raid, the South West Zonal Head of Operations, of the Board, Mr. Chinedu Azi, said the raid was informed by the desire of the Board to rid the market of pornographic movies. According to him, it is illegal for anyone to display pornographic movies since they violate the laws of the land. [Vanguard]
