A woman from Fruit-port Township decided to steal from her local Walmart store and couldn’t run away from police, so she decided to speed off on the store’s motorized wheelchair. She grabbed multiple stolen items and put them inside the motorized wheelchair.

Her name is Shirley Mason and she is 46-years-old. She laughed and giggled after being accused of stealing a motorized wheelchair shopping cart from her local Walmart store. She was able to drive two miles before police officers arrested her.

Shirley Mason was already in deep trouble because she had an outstanding warrant out for her arrest prior to stealing from her local Walmart store on the 8th of September. Shirley Mason has been charged with two separate counts of second-degree retail fraud, which came from another situation that happened before at the Roosevelt Park Walmart, as well as the organized retail crime at the Fruit-port Township Walmart.

When authorities finally caught up to Shirley on the motorized wheelchair from the Fruit-port Township Walmart, she possessed several bags of stolen merchandise.

Shirley was let go on a cash bond, according to a court official, and she has to return to court on the 23rd of September for a preliminary examination for the incident that occurred at the Fruit-port Township Walmart. That court hearing will determine whether or not Mason should report to circuit court.

Shirley almost got away from stealing from the Fruit-port Township Walmart until a customer saw her leaving the parking lot area on the motorized wheelchair. As mentioned before, she was nearly two miles away from the store when officers finally caught up to her. She explained to police that she tried to get a ride, but she couldn’t get in contact with anyone so instead she stole the wheelchair.

Mason had six bags full of stolen clothes, but she told police she paid for all of her items. They later found out she wasn’t telling the truth because she had no proof of receipt.

She stole the clothing and told authorities she intended on selling the clothes from money.

Police are still investigating the case and additional information has not been made known to the public.
