Chievo Verona Sack Coach Corini

Chievo Verona have relieved their manager Eugenio Corini of his duty following Saturday’s heavy loss to Roma, the Italian club confirmed in a statement on their website.

Verona’s 3-0 defeat away at the Stadio Olimpico have placed the side just outside the Serie A relegation zone. The ‘Flying Donkeys’ have only recorded four points from seven games and the loss at Roma was their fifth of the season.

The club said in a statement: “The club wholeheartedly thanks the coach for his hard work, professionalism and unwavering dedication and wishes him all the best for his future career.”

The 44-year-old coach returned for a second spell at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi dugout last November, four months after quitting his previous spell, to replace Beppe Sannino.

Local reports suggest former Catania boss Rolando Maran is the front runner to succeed Corini at the Bentegodi ahead of next week’s home meeting with Genoa.
